Introduction to the Nanaimo Boxing Club
Introduction NBC: by Brian Zelley, co-founder
*The formation of the Nanaimo Boxing Club in 1971
began with the idea stage in 1969 after
the Newcastle Boxing Club ended.
It began with a group of teens wanting
boxing lessons including a would be
boxer by the name of Bob Pegues.
Brian Zelley and Dan Wright were both
members of Vancouver's
Firefighters Boxing club but grads of NDSS
discussed the idea of starting a boxing club
in September 1969 but the final effort was not
made until 1971.
